April 27, 2026: SSMUH projects added to form-and-character review area

· Township of Langley OCP Schedule 4 amendment, SSMUH Development Permit Area

On April 27, 2026, Township Council adopted Schedule 4 of the Official Community Plan, establishing form-and-character guidelines for small-scale multi-unit housing (SSMUH). The Township says a development permit is required for SSMUH unless the project meets an exemption.

This adds a design-review step to eligible projects; it does not change the property's zoning or guarantee a permit. Check the Township's Development Permit Area information and current zoning bylaw to see which guidelines and exemptions apply to an address.

November 18, 2024: Zoning amendments bring SSMUH into effect

· Township of Langley Zoning Bylaw No. 2500 Amendment Bylaw No. 6020

On November 18, 2024, the Township adopted Bylaw 6020 to allow small-scale multi-unit housing in residential zones previously limited to single-family homes or duplexes. The Township's SSMUH page sets out location, servicing, heritage, TOA and lot-size eligibility conditions.

Three or four units may be permitted depending on lot size when a property meets the stated conditions. A count does not guarantee a triplex or fourplex form, and the bylaw's zone regulations and development-permit requirements still apply. Check the current map and confirm with the Township.
